PE Sports Premium

Priorslee Academy PE and Sport Funding 2014-2015 Priorslee Primary Academy understands and values the importance of physical activity and sport. The children are encouraged to undertake a range of sports and activities both within the Physical Education (PE) curriculum and also in extra-curricular activities. The Departments for Education, Health and Culture and Media and Sport have allocated funding to support the provision of PE and sport in schools. One of the School’s main PE goals over the next year or so is to gain planning permission and to build an all-weather sports pitch within the school grounds. This will enable the children to participate in a range of sports throughout the year regardless of weather conditions. We also hope this facility will increase participation numbers with regards to after school clubs.

In the academic year 2014/15, we have spent this money in the following way:

  • To improve the quality and quantity of materials for PE/sport in our school. The PE cupboards are regularly checked to ensure the equipment is safe to use and that there is enough equipment to carry out a successful PE lesson.
  • Affiliations to leagues and competitions for a range of sports. We as a school have to buy into certain competitions if we want the children to compete. We have recently bought into the Year 3/4 and 5/6 Football leagues, the Cross Country races, as well as the Netball competitions.  We will also be entering the ’Large Schools’ Swimming Gala later in the year.
  • Professional Development of staff to ensure high quality PE curriculum teaching. PE Co-ordinator and other members of staff have attended a number of courses. Resources are then shared with staff.
  • Purchasing of 3 large storage containers outside of the PE cupboard to ensure equipment is kept safe and from a health and safety point of view. (Tripping hazards in cupboard etc).
  • Purchasing of large zoom flag and sports clothing for Cross Country races. The flag will be used so that the children know where the school base is during these races. Ensuring all of the children are wearing Priorslee Academy blue shirts will also help with regards to safety, as these events are very overcrowded.
  • 2 new football goals have been purchased for the new season. The old ones were becoming a health and safety hazard as they were starting to fall apart.
  • Provision of further opportunities for children to swim 25m with confidence. Swimming lessons take place during school hours for those children who are unable to swim 25 metres confidently. The pool is hired out for approximately 2 hours a week during the summer term.

With the remainder of the money left in the budget we will be using it to build and maintain the new all-weather sports pitch.

In the academic year 2015/16, we propose to spend this money in the following way:

  • To improve the quality and quantity of materials for PE/sport in our school. The PE cupboards are regularly checked to ensure the equipment is safe to use and that there is enough equipment to carry out a successful PE lesson. New equipment will be purchased throughout the year for all to use.
  • Buying into the Telford and Wrekin School Sports Partnership will give the children more opportunity to take part in competitive competitions across a range of sports throughout the year. As well as this, members of staff will benefit from a ‘planning and delivering’ CPD programme, curriculum advice and facilitating sustainable school-club links to enhance the provision of afterschool sports clubs. The school will also be allocated a Telford and Wrekin coordinator, who will support their own cluster of primary schools and a hub secondary school.
  • Professional Development of staff to ensure high quality PE curriculum teaching. PE Co-ordinator and other members of staff will have the opportunity to attend a number of PE related courses. Resources can then be shared with members of staff to improve whole school teaching.
  • Purchasing the Val Sabin Physical Education resource pack for EYFS, KS1 and KS2. We hope that this will improve the quality of teaching of PE across all key stages and give members of staff the confidence to deliver good-outstanding PE lessons on a regular basis.
  • Provision of further opportunities for children to swim 25m with confidence. Swimming lessons take place during school hours for those children who are unable to swim 25 metres confidently. The pool is hired out for approximately 2 hours a week during the summer term. Transportation costs are also incurred throughout the duration of these weekly lessons.
  • Provision of lunchtime Activ8 football coaching for Y3/4 and Y5/6 children to increase participation levels in the sports for boys and girls.
  • Any money that is left over from the budget will be put towards the construction of the all-weather sports pitch.
